Former Mountain West Conference rivals collide when the BYU Cougars take on the San Diego State Aztecs in the Poinsettia Bowl. The Cougars come into this matchup as an independent, having finished with a 7-5 record in the regular season. The Aztecs will be looking to reach double-digit wins as their record sits at 9-3.

BYU has been rotating quarterbacks all season. Senior Riley Nelson began the year as the starter, but he was eventually supplanted by freshman Taysom Hill. After Hill went down to injury, Nelson returned but he has also been hampered, giving James Lark the opportunity. BYU blog Vanquish The Foe is still trying to figure out who will start, and is just glad to see the controversy end.

The two schools had a rivalry when in the Western Athletic and Mountain West Conferences together. Now the 2012 Poinsettia Bowl offers the Aztecs and Cougars an opportunity to renew the hostility.
