Ypsilanti, Michigan

"The Ypsilanti Community Choir will present its annual spring concert on Saturday, May 2, at 8 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (201 North River Street, Ypsilanti). Admission is free.

As always, this spring’s program promises to be a varied one—with something to please every musical taste. The concert will include: Irving Berlin’s I Love a Piano from “Stop! Look! Listen” (1915); selections from “A Gershwin Portrait”; a contemporary (2008) arrangement of America the Beautiful; the spiritual tribute to the Underground Railroad, Follow the Drinkin’ Gourd; Irving Berlin’s It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got that Swing (1932); selections from the hit musical “Chicago”; Carl Mueller’s Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God (1941); Chester, a popular Civil War song by William Billings; Aaron Copland’s adaptation of Irving Fine’s Long Time Ago; selections from “Simon and Garfunkel: Reunion”; Theodore Morrison’s setting of Prayer of St. Francis written for the University of Michigan Residential College Singers (2005), and a haunting arrangement of Amazing Grace.

The director of the group is Ariel Toews-Ricotta; Maria Cimarelli accompanies.

The Saturday evening concert will be followed on Sunday by a fundraiser at Haab’s Restaurant (18 West Michigan Avenue, Ypsilanti – 734-483-8200). Haab’s will donate 10% of all sales on May 3 to the Ypsilanti Community Choir."
