Please join Yow Dance for its first performance of the fall season, Yow Dance! featuring WEBERDANCE of Boston, Oct. 2-4, 2009, at Olympia High School.
Yow Dance is excited to introduce its latest edition of rep, Willowisp, set to Brahms' "Symphony No. 3 in F." Eric Yow, artistic director and choreographer, used the sweeping and contagious melody to transcend the dance into ethereal splendor. The other newest addition is choreographed to the first movement of Arvo Part's Tabula Rasa. It is a pounding force of dynamic ecstasy. The dancers writhe, thrash and swing through the siren of violins. Back by popular demand, Compromising Raven, set to the music of Philip Glass, and Empty will also be performed.
Yow Dance is proud to share the stage with WEBERDANCE in this unique opportunity.
WEBERDANCE will be showcasing Ley Lines, a dance that follows the seemingly precise nature of contemporary mapping down the rabbit hole to a world where cartography, mythology and the body intersect. Treadwreck and Vaunter are two other pieces WEBERDANCE will be presenting.
About Eric Yow, Artistic Director, Choreographer, Dancer, Yow Dance
Eric was born in Wilmington, N.C. While growing up he not only studied dance but was deeply involved in musical training as well. Enrolling at North Carolina School of the Arts as a double music major, playing both the oboe and clarinet, he later transferred to the dance department where he first discovered his true love for modern dance. After graduating with a diploma in dance, he moved to New York City to attend the Juilliard School. Yow has performed with the Martha Graham Ensemble, Leah Kreutzer Barber, and the Thang Dao Dance Company. He has also worked in Indianapolis with David Hochoy's Dance Kaleidoscope. During his time with Dance Kaleidoscope, he had the opportunity to spend his summers performing at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Ore.
Yow's most recent experience has been with Pascal Rioult. He was awarded many opportunities to teach and set work in a variety of different settings. His teaching ranged from schools and summer residences to working with professional dancers on repertory. He was chosen to stage Rioult's renowned "Wien" on Dance Kaleidoscope. Within the Central Florida community, Yow has taught at the Orlando Ballet School, Dr. Phillips High School and In Motion Dance Project, as well as held the former position of artistic director for Orlando's Voci Dance Group.
