The winners of the Livermore-Amador Symphony's annual Competition for Young Musicians violinist Da Eun Kim and harpist Anna Lorenz will be featured soloists on the Symphony's program titled "Youth Soloists Musical Panorama." The evening's performance will provide a musical panorama of Europe featuring Miss Kim performing the Violin Concerto No. 2 of Henryk Wieniawski, and Miss Lorenz performing the Danses Sacree et Profane for harp by Claude Debussy.

"Our Competition for Young Musicians began in 1973 and reflects the Livermore-Amador Symphony's commitment to promoting the next generation of classical musicians," says David Alltop, Chairman of the LAS Music Committee. "We are very proud that our competition is now in its 38th season, and particularly pleased that it allows us to showcase some of our communities' finest young artistic talent during this time of budget cuts in school music programs."

Miss Kim, who began studying the violin at the age of five, is a sophomore at Amador Valley High School, where she is concertmistress of the school's orchestra. Miss Lorenz, a resident of Livermore and a home-schooled high school junior, began studying the harp when she was eight years old. She has appeared with several Bay Area orchestras including the Castro Valley Chamber Orchestra.

The orchestra's program for the evening will also feature Gioachino Rossini's well-known William Tell Overture, conducted by LAS' assistant conductor Bob Williams. The remaining pieces conducted by Dr. Barnes include Jean Sibelius' Karelia Suite which evokes the pride of Finland, Chabrier's Espana Rhapsody features the musical dances of Spain, and Khachaturian's Masquerade Suite which ends in an exhilarating "gallop."

A pre-concert talk by Bob Williams, LAS Assistant Conductor and Peter Curzon, LAS orchestra member, beginning at 7 pm.
