You GOTTA Hear This: Cello Sensation Nathan Chan March 20, 2011

In the tradition of the classic radio variety show (think From the Top! and Prairie Home Companion), the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra presents You Gotta Hear This!-a showcase of the best in live music from around the Bay, presented at the plush Rrazz Room at Hotel Nikko, San Francisco, and hosted by our very own Ben Simon!

This fun, new chamber music series joins the well-established Classical at the Freight as part of the SFCO's "alternative venue" offerings-taking classical music out of the traditional concert hall and into the coffeehouses and jazz clubs!

Featuring top performing talent from the Bay Area's world-class conservatories, orchestras, and ensembles, You Gotta Hear This! brings fresh sounds across musical styles and genres-classical, jazz, acoustic, pop, international, and more. All this, plus lively and informative conversation with musicians and composers, as well as quizzes, games, and contests to bring the audience into the action!

All shows Sunday at 2pm. Admission $10, with a one-drink minimum. Kids under 18, only $5!

This month: 17-year-old international sensation Nathan Chan, cello, returns with selections from his personal repertoire, including Bach and Bright Sheng. Plus, the dynamic sounds of the Navitas Ensemble, violin & piano, as well as Robert Schwartz, piano-fresh from Skywalker Sound-with selections from Albeniz's masterpiece, Iberia (1908).
