this workshop will combine passive asanas with yoga nidra and meditation to create a very deep, introspective and restorative practice. most forms of yoga practiced today are “yang” in nature—they emphasize muscular movement and contraction. by contrast yin yoga targets the deep, dense connective tissues of the body, along with the body’s “energetic highways”, or meridians. this type of practice complements the more muscular styles of yoga and also prepares the body for sitting meditation.
specifically, our practice will utilize long held, passive floor postures to decongest connective tissue and fascia around the hips, pelvis, lower back and knees. these “yin” postures help the body remain supple at its core while encouraging stagnant ch’i (prana) to flow through the meridian system, thus enhancing the health of the joints and organs. we will then transition into the practice of yoga nidra, or “yogic sleep”—a technique in which one leaves the waking state, moves past the dreaming state, and enters into the deep sleep state while remaining fully awake and alert. the state of awareness cultivated during this practice is extremely beneficial for releasing stress, and for experiencing the joy of subtler spiritual explorations or experiences. we’ll conclude our practice by sharing the silence of a brief seated meditation.

yin + yoga nidra: the perfect practice for maintaining balance and joy throughout the holiday season. appropriate for all levels.
