One journey can change a life. One life can change the world.
A heartfelt story of boundless courage, determination and inspiration.

Yes Madam, Sir, the inspiring non-fiction feature film by award-winning Australian filmmaker, Megan Doneman, on the life story of India's most controversial revolutionary, Kiran Bedi– India’s first woman police officer. Filmed in India over six years and narrated by Academy Award winner Helen Mirren, Yes Madam, Sir is an epic story profiling Asia Nobel Prize winner, Kiran Bedi.

Yes Madam, Sir has its Australian theatrical premiere at Riverside Theatres on Wednesday 23 November at 7pm in a special screening hosted by Councilor Lorraine Wearne, Lord Mayor Parramatta City Council.

“I am delighted to be hosting the fourth Lord Mayor’s Film Premiere to be held at Riverside Theatres. Yes Madam, Sir is a powerful and memorable story of an extraordinary women and her battle against corruption while upholding the law in her role as a police officer,” said Lord Mayor Councillor Wearne.

Yes Madam, Sir has been scooping the awards and garnering rave reviews during its run on the worldwide film festival circuit. A modern day Gandhi, Bedi is an intriguing paradox: deified by millions for her commitment to social justice and her public stance against corruption; vilified by the establishment as a publicity seeking, uncontrollable megalomaniac. The true drama lies not in Bedi’s extraordinary actions but in the inherent contradictions in her character. In Bedi’s eyes, she fights the fight of the underdog.

Paradoxically the very qualities that propel Kiran Bedi to triumph could ultimately spell her downfall. Through exclusive scenes of Bedi on the job as India’s most controversial police officer, intimate home scenes with her father and daughter and tender moments with her estranged husband, the filmmaker’s uncensored access unravels the truth behind the icon.
Kiran Bedi, been in the news lately for her part in “Team Anna” supporting anti-corruption activist, Kisan Baburao Hazare known throughout India as simply, “Anna”. On August 16 this year Kiran Bedi and other members of Team Anna were arrested (and later released), following a hunger strike by Anna Hazare in support of new anti-corruption laws called the Lokpal Bill, that has now been drafted by India’s parliament. But Bedi’s troubles are not over yet: ironically she could face jail time in Tihar Prison, the very prison she famously reformed over a decade ago, just one of the stories told in Yes Madam, Sir.
Packed with heart, Yes Madam, Sir is a roller coaster ride of the triumph and frustration, fame and infamy, comedy and tragedy, passion and pain of a sole leader. Yes Madam Sir is also a searing insight into a lawmaker who becomes a law unto herself.
