151 3rd St
San Francisco, California

This September 23rd, five of San Francisco’s top cultural destinations including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the Contemporary Jewish Museum (CJM), the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), Children’s Creativity Museum and Yerba Buena Gardens Festival welcome families with a full day of free admission, hands-on art making activities and special family-friendly performances. It’s an unprecedented opportunity for kids and their caregivers to experience all that downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena arts district has to offer, thanks to the generous support of Target.

Each venue offers visitors a huge array of free opportunities to see and make art. At the Children’s Creativity Museum, families can experiment with stop-motion movie making in the Animation Studio, bring their own fingerpainted creations to life in Creatura – a one-of-a-kind surround vision exhibit, and ride the historic carousel for free. At the Contemporary Jewish Museum, visitors will celebrate the wonder of story by creating imaginative story puppets and story journals and can take in a show by master storyteller Michael Katz. At SFMOMA, kids can get up close and PERSONal with tons of hands on family fun that explores artists’ interest in faces and people. Down the block at MoAD, families can tour the exhibition Choose Paint! Choose Abstraction! Celebrating Bay Area Abstract Artists and create their own abstract chalk masterpieces to add to the Museum’s walls. And Yerba Buena Gardens Festival offers a lively afternoon under the sun with performances by the legendary Latin jazz pianist/composer Eddie Palmieri, plus other family-friendly performers.

With so much to do and so much to see, Yerba Buena Family Day is so much more than just another free day. So, mark your calendar for September 23rd. You won’t want to miss the family-friendliest day that downtown San Francisco has to offer!
