French-Vietnamese choreographer/performer Ea Sola creates vital contemporary works grounded in the traditional culture, music, dance and history of Vietnam. YBCA is pleased to bring the company to the Bay Area for the very first time with Drought and Rain, Volume 2, a new full-evening version of a seminal work that gave birth to contemporary performing arts in Vietnam in 1995. This 80-minute multidisciplinary work refracts the war through the memories of the next generation and spotlights the unique clash between local and Western culture in modern-day Vietnam. “The young person carries the memories of the old warriors…peace belongs to them when they take the responsibility…” Performance features dancers from Hanoi Opera Ballet and live music composed by Nguyen Xuan Son performed by two opera singers and four musicians playing traditional instruments.
