The quartet has carved a unique niche in modern jazz by relentlessly exploring and experimenting with rhythms and harmonies to create a collection of adventurous, exploratory jams that emphasize the band member's strong compositional sense and extraordinary musicianship. For twenty-five years, the Yellowjackets have continued to delve into every corner of the musical universe and weave a multi-layered and innovative tapestry of sonic experience. Their latest CD on Heads Up International celebrates this landmark anniversary with the May 23, 2006, release of Twenty-Five, a combination CD/bonus DVD package that captures two electrified live performances during their European tour in the fall of 2005. The CD is essentially an eight-song retrospective of some of the band's finest work - as interpreted by the current lineup of Haslip, Ferrante, saxophonist Bob Mintzer and drummer Marcus Baylor. The group returns to Yoshi’s with their trademark mix of R&B, funk, jazz and world music styles.
