Wikipedia celebrates its 10th Anniversary on the 15th of Jan. There will be several programs in Pune celebrating Wikipedia's 10th Anniversary on the 15th of Jan. Barry Newstead, the Global Development Director of Wikimedia Foundation, will be at some of them.

Mr Pralhad Kachre (Head of the RTI Cell@ YASHADA) has kindly agreed to host an informal reception to talk about the role of wikis in good governance. Most of you will be aware that we at Pune have had a Pune Governance Wiki from 2008 (http://giki.wikia.com/Pune). This event is informal and open to all - you can invite anyone who would be interested - would be great if you can join.

Event Schedule:
YASHADA Saturday 15th Jan 2011 17:00 hrs to 18:30 hrs followed by tea.

Also we are looking at:
* Sponsorship to distribute about 200 offline readers, pendrives or CD's with wikipedia to libraries of schools - particularly Municipal Schools - without internet across Maharashtra.
* Setting up a Pune Wikipedian Scholarship for children under 20 to support one years educational expenses for contributing to wikipedia.
* Setting up a Teacher Fellowship for 10 teachers from Pune to create wiki-based content for their classrooms on wikiversity (http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page)

Do you know anyone who can help make this happen? This need not happen on the 15th but we can set the process rolling and perhaps the interest or intent could be announced.

This is a free event. Anyone can attend. No registration required.
