The buzz term that keeps popping up for the Oregonian tag-team YACHT is “lap-pop,” but their music has more to do with actual sunlight than it does the glow of the monitor, and their words are more like transcendental treatises than party anthems. At the core of their tapestry of electro harmonies and layered percussion is the invigorating and refractory soul of old school riot grrl. Signed in 2008 to DFA Records, they are very much a part of that label’s bias towards testing the definition of electro. And as their music expands beyond genre, they have expanded the concept of what a musical collective can be. As expressed in the opening statements of their manifesto, “YACHT is a Band, Belief System, and Business.”

James Murphy's LCD Soundsystem has been the definitive name in underground dance-punk for almost a decade. A skilled arranger, multi-instrumentalist and remixer, Murphy is also the founder of DFA records which puts out artists that can rival LCD's originality. On July 28, Murphy and his touring percussionist/partner-in-crime Pat Mahoney will be hitting the decks for a night of choice cuts.

BAD BRILLIANCE
HOLY SHIT! The creator of NYC's most infectious electro beats is multi-media artist Bad Brilliance. A star talent on Andrew W.K.'s Skyscraper Music Maker label, Bad B's makes tracks that are NYC technopunk with Hot 97 aspirations. Disguised by a large red suit with a yellow balloon for a head, his live performances are visual happenings as well, full of surprises and opportunities for crowd participation.
