Yeshiva University Museum continues to explore the links between the visual and literary arts with its third annual writers reading event – Writers on View. On January 28, 2009, poet Yerra Sugarman (The Bag of Broken Glass and Forms of Gone), poet and photographer Thomas Sayers Ellis (The Maverick Room; recipient of a Mrs. Giles Whiting Writers’ award), novelist and visual artist Michele Zackheim (Broken Colors and Violette’s Embrace) and poet and essayist Sima Rabinowitz (The Jewish Fake Book) present new poems and stories inspired by the dramatic and provocative paintings and drawings of German artist David Stern. Stern joins the writers for a conversation about the work. Sara Ivry, senior editor at Nextbook.org is the program’s host. Exhibition viewing is at 6 PM. Readings begin at 7 PM. Yeshiva University Museum is located at 15 West 16th Street.

Stern’s work is featured in the exhibition Abstraction, Figuration, and the Spiritual/David Stern: The American Years (1995-2008) on display now through February 8, 2009 at Yeshiva University Museum. His dynamic canvases, dealing mainly with urban themes, capture life’s intensity and convey the city’s authentic energies.
