Opening Fri, April 5, 6-9pm, exhibit March 8 - April 30

It was 1970, and 40-year-old artist/psychiatrist Robert Akeley was walking down 49th Street with a friend when he noticed a big pale green Queen Anne victorian house that was shining silver in the light of the full moon...with a For Sale sign on it.

This is how Robert came to live in Temescal, painting his graphic colorful acrylics in the barn out back of the now aquamarine house he shares with a community of friends and fellow artists.

A retrospective of Robert Akeley's work will be shown at Rise Above Gallery, spanning a long and still very active painting career. Two month-long exhibitions will show a rotation of his pieces. Both opening receptions will feature food, drink and music created by Robert's extended Temescal community: Todd & Jordan Champagne, Happy Girl Kitchen; Matt & Mike, Barn Beer; Lena & Brian, Corner Taco.

As with all of the art shows at Rise Above, there will be live screen printing of limited edition artist's design on t-shirts as well.
