Cynthia Cooper, most well-known for her role in uncovering the corporate fraud at WorldCom, will speak at Loyola Marymount University on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. She was named one of Time Magazine’s 2002 Persons of the Year.

Cooper will speak on "WorldCom Warnings: What Went Wrong and Corporate Governance Lessons Learned” as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series for LMU’s Center for Accounting Ethics, Governance, and the Public Interest.

Cooper was inducted to the 2004 American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Hall of Fame and is the first woman to receive this distinction. She was awarded the 2003 Maria & Sidney E. Rolfe Award by the Women’s Economic Round Table, which was presented to her due to her extraordinary contributions to educating the public about economics, business and finance.

She is also the 2003 recipient of the Accounting Exemplar Award, which is awarded annually to an individual who has made notable contributions to professionalism and ethics in accounting practice or education. The American Accounting Association’s Public Interest Section recognized Cooper for her efforts to promote professionalism and ethics in the accounting profession. She is the 10th recipient of the Accounting Exemplar Award and the first woman to receive the award.
