The China Open was staged for the first time in 1999. As snooker'spopularity has grown in the region it has become a regular fixture onthe calendar; indeed in 2007/08 there are two ranking events in Chinain the same season for the first time.
The tournament has been staged in Beijing regularly since 2005. The2006 event, sponsored by Honghe Industrial, was the first under a newfive-year agreemeent through which it is underwritten by the ChineseBilliards and Snooker Association through its promoter InternationalSports Limited.
