POCKET CARAVAN

Pocket Caravan cross continents with ease, merging soaring Baltic melodies with driving Latin rhythms and virtuosic improvisations.
The ensemble began after a chance encounter between British guitarist Peter Michaels and South Brazilian violinist Felipe Karam. They quickly realised they shared an interest in learning from other musical cultures, and performed across the UK for several years as a duo.
They had both written compositions inspired by music from other places. This formed the material for their debut album Landscapes in 2008, with many guests joining them in the studio. The album contained ten original compositions exploring countries the two musicians had lived, including Brazil, Argentina and Eastern Europe. It was launched in 2008 in the Shunt vaults under London Bridge railway station.
The quartet developed as they found other musicians with a desire to widen their horizons whilst expressing their heritage. The regular line-up now includes double-bassist Matheus Nova and multi-instrumentalist Anselmo Netto.
In 2010 they were signed to the London-based Forge record label. This gave them the opportunity to record their second album live at the label’s own concert hall in Camden Town. The resulting album, 7 Steps From The Border, contains eleven new pieces travelling from the Gaucho campfires of Southern Brazil to the outskirts of Europe. It was released in November 2010 to a packed audience in the same concert hall.
