Llanfyllin

Since 2004, the grounds of Y Dolydd workhouse in Llanfyllin have hosted a three-day family-friendly festival featuring live music and comedy, crafts and children's activities. Julia Phillips is one of the team of local organisers. In February 2008 she started to outline the line-up for this year's festival which will be held between Friday 4 July and Sunday 6 July.

This year the Workhouse Festival will be held on the weekend of 4 - 6 July 2008.

On Friday 7 March tickets will be exclusively available for locals before they are sold nationally.

The festival has been described as "the best small festival in the UK" and "the most eclectic upbeat festival ever to have hit Wales" and having sold out prior to the event two years running, festival organisers thought that it would be a good idea to give locals a chance to get tickets to avoid disappointment.

Headline acts booked so far include Dreadzone, Sicknote, Dr Meaker, Bloco Electro, The Don Bradmans and Babyhead with many more bands and performers to follow.

The festival will be even more environmentally conscious this year and a true extravaganza of live music, cabaret, film, djs, workshops, bizarre walkabout and kids' entertainment in a beautiful setting.

The Workhouse Festival is a fund-raising event for the regeneration of the Llanfyllin Union Workhouse building.

Tickets will be on sale in local shops in Llanfyllin; Recycled Records in Shrewsbury and Zonker Crackers in Welshpool. Adult Weekend tickets are £55, Youth Ticket £30 and 12 and unders free. Camper van tickets are £10.
