ITVS and others have teamed together to use film to highlight issues affecting women in the United States and across the globe. See schedule below.

9:30 am - A Girl’s Life – Documentary about the challenges facing teenage girls in the United States.

11:00 am - Off and Running: A Very American Coming of Age Story – Explores the life of a Brooklyn teenager, adopted by white Jewish lesbians, with two adopted brothers, decides to search out her African American roots by finding her birth mother.

1:00 pm - Troop 1500 – Document five Girl Scouts whose mothers are incarcerated at the Hilltop Prison in Gatesville Texas. The film explores their relationships with their mothers, as well as how they handle their lives outside – school, extracurricular activities, and family. A “sobering but hopeful look at the struggles faced by the more than 1.5 million American children who have a parent behind bars.”

3:00 pm - Lakshmi and Me – Explores the “bond between an employer and domestic worker in modern-day India, where one’s status, relationships, and livelihood are often still ordained by the ancient caste system.” The film documents the colliding of worlds between these two people.
