Oct 9-10, 11 am - 6pm both days

Artist Wolf Gomez presents her culturally vibrant new works in the series A Living Ritual. The heat of the tropics comes to SF for what is certain to be a colorful exhibition. Caribbean born Wolf captures images of individuals from within the island's festival of carnival and juxtaposes them in an otherworldly painted landscape. Within each piece she creates a vibration of harmonizing or of soulful contrast between the subject and their new and unfamiliar environment.

Come see her works as part of ArtSpan's 35th Annual SF Open Studio, and meet the artist in her studio at 4517 A 18th St in SF CA 94114 (on 18th near Douglas). The show opens to the public on October 9th & 10th 2010, from 11am -6pm. Take a sneak peak and visit the artist online at http://www.artspan.org/bio/wolf-gomez

Wolf has been making art in the San Francisco Bay area since the early 1980's. Upon migrating to California in 1981 her artwork explored the concept of home and the fluidity of the family as a unit in transition. She received her BFA from California College of the Arts in Oakland where her artistic style branched out into abstraction and mixed-media.

Wolf received her MA in Arts Education & Digital Technologies in 1995 from SF State University. She has served on the board of Directors for the SF Southern Exposure Gallery and has been an artist teacher for teenagers in its Mission Voices summer arts program.

While living in London over the last 3 years Wolf wrote the draft of her first teen novel "Where the Rivers Meet". She is actively pursuing publishing the mystery adventure which takes place in the island of Trinidad. The experience of writing it prompted her to begin formulating a new body of paintings. Having recently returned to San Francisco Wolf Gomez presents the collages and acrylic on canvas in her new series "A Living Ritual".
