“Stand Up and Take Action San Francisco Bay Area” Joins Millions of People Worldwide in
Setting a New Guinness World Record to Promote the Millennium Development Goals.

On October 16-18, people in the San Francisco Bay Area will join millions all over the world to “Stand Up and Take Action” against poverty and in support of the Millennium Development Goals. The Stand Up and Speak Out initiative is planned to coincide with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. On this weekend last year, over 116 million people (116,993,629) at over a thousand events worldwide, stood up against poverty - setting a new Guinness World Record.

Stand Up and Take Action, coordinated by the UN Millennium Campaign (endpoverty2015.org) and the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (www.whiteband.org), is a global event in which citizens urge their leaders to keep their promises to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and act locally to end conditions of extreme global poverty. There are five local Stand Up events on Friday and Saturday reflecting the spectrum of the bay area’s commitment to support the worldwide citizens movement to “make poverty history”.
