Increased longevity means that we can expect to live many years beyond our most productive years. Career and child rearing, by which we have defined ourselves, no longer occupy the majority of our time. The course will explore the questions, who do I want to be now that I'm grown up? What do I still long and need to do in my life? How do I want to contribute? How do I want to be remembered? What gives my life meaning? What brings me joy? When am I most alive? To explore these questions, it is necessary to reflect on our lives, extracting lessons we've learned; repair unhealed wounds and fractured relationships; clarify our deepest values; face our mortality; and deliberately envision the life we want to lead now and the legacy we want to leave behind. In this course, we will explore these topics, using films in which these issues are examined, as the main impetus for discussion. In addition to films, we will use readings, discussion, journaling and experiential exercises to transform our perspective on the gaining of wisdom in the second half of our lives.
