Winter’s Discontent is a theatrical tour de force from one of Australia’s most highly awarded and finest actors and is playing at Riverside Theatres on July 29 and 30 as part of the Riverside Education Season. With a command of language and stage craft that is astonishing, William Zappa exposes the actor’s joy, humour and despair as his hero faces his personal demons and the tragedy of his own life.

In a dressing room, backstage of a rundown theatre, sits Robert Winter. He is on an interminable tour of the one man show, Eleven Episodes from the Torture, Trial and Execution of Monsieur Thenardier, based on the villain from Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables. With only his stage manager Mo for company, the line between reality and play-acting becomes blurred as Winter struggles to believe in his life and to live up to the theatrical creed “the show must go on!”

“This is a show filled with the raw emotions that are greatly recognisable and they are made even more so by William Zappa’s talented performance. His physical characterisation is both moving and entertaining. Riverside Theatres is very pleased to have Winter’s Discontent as part of our Education Season” said Director of Riverside Theatres, Robert Love.
