Every month, Free Geek offers a workshop to folks wanting to learn more about computers and software. Ultimately, we want to 'geekify' the masses, one Wednesday at a time!

This month: Introduction to Computer Hardware - Demystifying the Box

Spartacus books, 7pm-10pm

2nd floor, 319 West Hastings [MAP]

All are welcome! Beginners ok! Fully accessible, bike parking upstairs.

Free or by donation.

Topics covered:

How to work with Electronics ~ Basic computer Anatomy ~ POST (Power On Self Test) ~ How to access computers ~ If buying, questions you should ask ~ If receiving, things you should look for ~

The hardware presentation will run about an hour and a bit.

There will be a Linux Clinic from 8:30; we'll assist folks who have Linux issues. If you are already running a distribution of Linux, you might consider bringing your box down, so we can work together to solve your difficulties. Please drop us a line if you can, outlining your issues.

Folks who attended the presentation are welcome to stick around to explore hardware topics further, or to ask other questions.

Free and open source software can offer community-oriented, nutritious and delicious alternatives. Join us for Windowsless Wednesdays & learn how to set your computer free!
