Wild, Wild West Day

Saturday, July 23 has been proclaimed the National Day of the Cowboy by Governor David Heineman. To celebrate, The Durham Museum is teaming up with Wild West Creations will host Wild, Wild West Day. Visitors can take part in some Old West fun throughout the museum!
• Just like in Deadwood, visitors can see old-fashioned gun fights
• See cowboys rein actors portray favorites such as Wyatt Earp, Calamity Jane, Sam McQuade and Curly Bill. Learn about these famous cowboy exploits as they sit around the campfire!
• See the film “An Epic Journey in Bronze” to learn about the beautiful history behind First National Bank’s sculpture park
• Enjoy trick roping demonstrations
• Take photos with the Wild West Creation cowboys
• Learn about train robbers from the Old West
• Take part in games such as horseshoes
• Learn how to lasso
• See leather craft and blacksmith demonstrations
• Explore the museum’s Lives of Tradition exhibition - a series of beautiful photographs by Charles W. Guildner focusing on the lives of people living and working in the heartland of rural America
