For two shows only, this original piece written and performed by Kristin Clippard will be showing at the Gallery One San Francisco art exhibit entitled Revelations. This week long celebration of all art mediums is a gala for the Resident Artists of Gallery One, of which Clippard is included. A burgeoning hotspot for new artists, both visual and performing, this Financial District gallery is one to keep your eye on.

Based on a true story, Wild Child tells the tale of a feral girl who was locked in a dark room for the first thirteen years of her life. When Cindy was discovered, a team of scientists formed to rehabilitate her and to study her intriguing case. That team included Rachel Collins, the young linguist who taught Cindy language. As they work together, Rachel finds out more about Cindy’s isolated past and Cindy grows more in her understanding of the world. Just as Cindy seems to plateau in her progress, funding is lost, research has to cease, and Cindy and Rachel are separated. In an ironic lawsuit brought against Collins and the scientists, questions are raised concerning whether or not the science came second to Cindy’s well being. In the history of scientific tragedies, this one is sure to grab you unlike any other. Aligning with the theme of Revelations, Clippard’s dynamic work shows us the power of self discovery and strength within the human spirit. Don’t miss out on this marriage of a scientific and theatrical event! Wild Child features the solo music of Linford Detweiler, of the nationally renowned folk/pop band Over the Rhine (Back Porch Records). Direction is by local gem, Rebecca Longworth.

Kristin Clippard is a theatre artist working primarily as an actor, educator, writer, director, and dramaturg. She currently teaches and acts for the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. Wild Child has been in development since 2000 and was most recently performed for the Solo Festival at Cape May Stage in New Jersey. She is delighted to bring it to San Francisco.

Wild Child will be playing Saturday, September 23 and Wednesday, September 27 at 8pm. A donation of $15 is suggested. Presented by Hat in Hand Productions and sponsored by Gallery One.
