Who Was Beethoven? The Artist Speaks Out
David Dubal, pianist, teacher, writer, and broadcaster

Beethoven—whom Wagner called “a titan wrestling with the gods”—was one of the great uplifting spirits of humanity. His earthly journey is one we can all learn from. In the composer’s own words: “Blessed is he who has overcome all passions and then proceeds energetically to perform his duties under all circumstances careless of success! For he who is wretched and unhappy is so only in consequence of things.” The lecture will be complemented by Juilliard musicians performing Beethoven.
