Who Owns Antiquity?
Museums and the Battle Over Our Ancient Heritage
James Cuno, President and Director of the Art Institute of Chicago

The issue of whether antiquities should be returned to their countries of origin is one of the most urgent and controversial in the art world today. Artifacts need protection from looters, but they also need protection from nationalistic identity politics. This talk provides the first extended defense in this important struggle from the vantage point of the museums and calls for measures to broaden rather than restrict international access to antiquities.
