A Benefit for the Oakland Museum of California

The White Elephant Sale is the biggest, the best, and certainly the most enjoyable rummage sale in Northern California. Now in its 47th year, the sale, held once a year on the first weekend in March, will be held March 3rd and 4th. The sale, sponsored by the Oakland Museum Women's Board, is held in their WES warehouse at 333 Lancaster Street (at Glascock), on the Oakland Estuary. All proceeds from the sale go to support programs and exhibitions at the Oakland Museum of California.

There are 17 departments in the White Elephant Sale—with everything for sale from sporting goods to boutique items, books to furniture, art to electrical items, dishes to shoes, and children's clothes, toys and furnishings to Hawaiian shirts and vintage clothing—all spread out in separate departments in the 96,000-square-foot warehouse. You will find collectibles and treasures of all sorts!

The White Elephant Preview Sale is Sunday, January 28 from 11:00 AM to 4 PM. Tickets are $12.50 in advance; $15 at the door. To order tickets by mail, send $12.50 per ticket to White Elephant Preview Sale, P.O. Box 11605, Oakland, CA 94611. Make the check or money order payable to W.E.S. Preview. Please do NOT send cash. Include a stamped, self addressed envelope.

the wes is an awesome spectacle to behold -- a warehouse the size of an airplane hangar that houses any conceivable second hand item you could want. eat a breakfast and make sure to bring your charged cellphones, so you could coordinate to meet up w/ your party after a day of scavenging.
