Acacia Foundation and Global Cultural Connections Present the Legendary Whirling Dervishes of Turkey

Seattle, WA, February 15, 2007 - Acacia Foundation of Seattle and Global Cultural Connections (GCC), a non-profit California organization promoting intercultural and interfaith activities, proudly announce their sponsorship to a very special series of performances by the Order of the Whirling Dervishes of Turkey.

The event titled as " Whirling World: A Mystical Performance by the Whirling Dervishes of Rumi and a Classical Sufi Music Concert" will take place in Salt Lake City, Seattle, Tucson, Los Angeles, Irvine, Reno and San Francisco on April 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12 and 13, respectively. The Order of the Whirling Dervishes is one branch of the vast Sufi tradition of Islam. Sufism espouses a moderate interpretation of Islam, which focuses on tolerance which is very much relevant to the social and political realities of today. The ritual performed by the Order of the Whirling Dervishes has come to symbolize the tolerance and love in the hearts and minds of millions throughout the world.

The mystical performance by Whirling Dervishes features the revolving dance of the dervishes cloaked in long white robes accompanied by spiritual Sufi music performed live on traditional instruments dating back to the time of Rumi from 13th century, AC.

The Whirling Dervishes have performed previously in Europe and the Far East besides the US. Attendees of the performance in select cities, namely Salt Lake City, Seattle, Tucson, Los Angeles, Irvine, Reno and San Francisco, will have the unique opportunity to witness this intensely spiritual and inspirational performance of the Whirling Dervishes without having to travel to Turkey.
