Hannah O’Regan (Archaeology, Liverpool John Moores University) speaking on how Cave archaeology has been central to our understanding of human evolution. Esp. during the late 1800's, when ‘Cave hunting’ wasn't just a book (Boyd Dawkins, 1874), but also a pastime for antiquarians.

Discoveries & excavations around the UK meant that large quantities of archaeological remains, inc. human burials, non-human bones such as bear and lynx, stone tools & pottery were recovered. Some of these specimens made their way into museum collections. With examples from NW England & The Manchester Museum collections, we'll explore what can be learned from the archives, specimens & via new scientific techniques.

Coffee, tea & biscuits served afterwards.
