The hysteria and humor of being human

Mama Calizo's Voice Factory, San Francisco's premier location for original queer performance, in conjunction with Choyoh! Productions, pioneers in live theater and video interaction, are proud to present NY based artist, dancer and choreographer, Alicia Ohs and a world premier of two, new dance theatre works in 'when i die i will be dead.'

Boldly using direct audience experience and participation, "New York, I Love You, I Hate You... Now Dance!" examines an artist's struggle between brilliance and imitation, inclusion and exclusion in the NY art world. Simulating a live NY audition, the piece is a bold commentary on the treatment and fate of dancers from many backgrounds, who flock to NYC to become stars.

"Dokuen" or 'solo' in Japanese, reflects on identity and grief and asks the questions: how do we translate our subjective happiness and anguish through art? How does the performer, laden with meaning and mis-interpretation, translate another's pain? Dokuen exhumes the myriad of emotions and reactions that reminds us of the levity and solemnity in life and death.

Both works follow characters oscillating between hilarity and hysteria.
