In our What the Heck Do I Do with This Series of classes, we learn about unusual and bizarre food items out there at our disposal and show you how to use them. This class on Nori & Seaweed is a really odd one. We see it everywhere these days not only in traditional Japanese sushi houses and recipes but popping up more frequently in our day to day lives- from Nori wraps at our local sandwich shop, seafood salads at our local high end spots, and now for the first time in the aisles of our mainstream and local grocers! So what the heck do we do with it? This class will break it down from the basics to the intricate, focusing on traditional usage and modern, fusion style recipes and ideas there are out there. As most of us are aware the traditional Japanese diet is said to be one of the healthiest in the world, there’s no coincidence that it’s filled with seaweed in many different forms. Sea plants contain ten to twenty times the minerals of land plants, so ounce per ounce seaweed is higher in vitamins and minerals than any other class of food. We will attempt to get to the bottom of how to incorporate more of this healthy stuff into our everyday lives without much fuss, from hunting it down to getting busy with it! We will focus a great deal on Nori, which is the world’s most popular seaweed, but we will also cover all (or most) of the other options available to us! Come and let’s figure out together what the heck to do with Nori & Seaweed!
