Join BAIPA at the San Rafael Corporate Center, 750 Lindaro Street in San Rafael, Saturday, October 10. Peter Beren will share his wisdom from the perspective of an agent. Literary agents are much more than dealmakers, they are editors, career counselors and strategic planners.

A publishing industry veteran, Beren, presents a profile of the many levels of services that Literary Agents provide to authors including: helping to shape the book concept, editing the book proposal, outlining a marketing plan and researching both the book's market and competition.

Then comes the important step of researching and pitching appropriate publishers. The Agent then obtains a publication offer and negotiates the contract. Following that, the Agent helps moderate the author's relationship with the publisher and double-checks each royalty statement for accuracy Agents also help authors decide what book to do next and provide general career guidance. When you think about it, its quite a bargain for 15% commission.
