West Seattle Rock Club 47th Annual Rock and Gem Show: "Gold Rush West Seattle"

Dates and Times: Saturday, April 30 (10 AM to 5 PM); Sunday, May 1 (10 AM to 5 PM)

Each year the West Seattle Rock Club holds a Rock and Gem Show.

The theme of this year's show is "Gold Rush West Seattle". Thanks to the popularity of the Discovery Channel's "Gold Rush Alaska" series, gold fever has hit the West Seattle Rock and Gem Show. We will have a display featuring authentic, modern-day gold prospecting equipment along with demonstrations by real gold prospectors. Come and learn about discovering and panning for gold! You might just find some yourself!

The show will also include beautiful displays of rocks, mineral specimens, fossils, geodes, gemstones and crystals. Club members of all ages make rock and gem displays. There will also be demonstrations of jewelry and lapidary techniques like cutting, beading and wire-wrapping. A multitude of vendors will have items for sale: jewelry, minerals, silver-work, lapidary tools, beading supplies, fossil specimens, geodes, and rough and polished rocks.

This is a kid-friendly event, with lots of fun activities for kids. Kids can make their own Gem Tree, win grab bags full of beautiful polished rocks, spin to win rock and gem prizes and bid in a silent auction for kids. The Burke Museum will have a display. And "Amazing Earth Theater" will show educational videos.

The purpose of the West Seattle Rock Club is to promote the study and enjoyment of the lapidary arts with good rockhounding and good fellowship; and to further education and lapidary skills for all. The club conducts field trips for exploration and collection of minerals, gems, rocks and fossils. It publishes a monthly periodical known as "West Seattle PETROGLYPHS" about the club's activities.
