West Texas and Jefferson Streets
Fairfield, California

For Immediate Release West Coast BBQ Championship fires up Fairfield, CA.

Master Chefs and talented cooks from all over the Western United States will compete for a California State Championship title Saturday August 18, 2007 at West Texas and Jefferson Streets as part of the 16th annual Fairfield Tomato Festival. This is a cooking contest like no other - While many people have seen cooking contests on national TV, few have had the opportunity to see and them up close and in person as they will at the West Coast BBQ Championships!

This family-oriented outdoor festival welcomes everyone from 10am to 6 pm, admission is free. There are numerous other activities and entertainment options surrounding the BBQ contest, including: concerts, craft vendors, kids zone, as well as a bounty of Tomato flavored options. BBQ and other edible delights will be available for purchase from vendors. Samples of locally grown heirloom tomatoes, along with many other tasty treats will be available courtesy of the Fairfield Downtown Association in Tomato Alley.

Downtown Fairfield will be filled with the overwhelming aroma as the BBQ teams cook through the night and into the early hours of Saturday morning. The teams typically have playful names, but are serious about tasty and tender slow smoked barbeque, and the sport of competition cooking.

Attendees will be able to observe and interact with the professional BBQ cooks, as well as witness not only the final rush of the entries to judging, but the judging itself which for the first time will be open to public viewing. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded for the top finishers in each category.

This year we will be bringing a new element to the West Coast BBQ Championships, the Kansas City BBQ Societys Competitor series. This new division is aimed primarily at the backyard, hobbyist, and weekend warrior grill masters who can compete with just the basics. Any individual or group is encouraged to enter this contest - friends, family, companies, car clubs, church/civic groups, service providers/supporters, volunteer organizations, public service supporters; anyone can compete with just the simplest of equipment that most people have at home. If you think you are a master of the grill, its time to show us what youve got. It will be a great day to gather with your friends, talk to others about your cause, club, association, or company and have some fun at the Tomato Festival maybe even take away some cash, a trophy, and bragging rights.

Also for the first time this year the West Coast BBQ Championships will be able to offer the public a true taste of competitive BBQ. As a fundraising opportunity, local charities will operate tasting stations where competition quality BBQ will be available for public consumption at a nominal fee.

Either way as a competitor or spectator youll have great time at the West Coast BBQ Championships and Fairfield Tomato Festival. For more information please see www.westcoastbbqchampionships.com or www.fairfielddowntown.com
