Weaving

Students who are inspired by the texture and beauty of handwoven fabrics will enjoy this class. Exploring an art form of boundless possibilities, each student will venture into their own personal journey, while becoming a part of the fellowship of weavers at the Visual Art Center of Richmond.
This class will take the beginner through the process of preparing the yarn and the loom, then guide them to completion of a very satisfying finished product.
It will also assist the returning weaver to become re-acquainted with the structure and techniques of measuring warp, dressing the loom, and reading drafts. The class is designed to take each weaving student, and raise them up to new levels of knowledge and joy in the fiber arts. All students will learn how the loom works, how to design and plan a project, read a pattern draft, and finishing techniques. During a 4 week session, students will weave one project, but may take consecutive sessions to produce larger and more complex projects. Floor looms are available for all students and some hand-controlled table looms are available on a reserved basis.
