We, the Soul - Artworks by Anjali Moghe. Curator: Raju Sutar. Anjali Moghe co-constitutes reality through her Australian Aboriginal dot representations of 'identity in difference'. Three large acrylics on canvas alongside gouache on handmade paper carry on them shadows of the artists positive mind. While in her earlier work 'We the People' each dot represented an individual person, the artist now moves along the trajectory from the embodied to the soul. The theme of 'identity in difference' finds roots in the Vedantic traditions and a hint of its meaning can be found in the commonly used phrase 'unity in diversity'. Although each dot is an individual form, in aggregation individuality perishes and the aggregated form is enhanced by the merger of each element. In turn we perceive the 'bigger picture' such that the meaning of Universality and Individuality are interdependent and cannot exist without each other. It is our position in space that affords us understanding of what IS. Moghe recognizes her engagement with art as spiritual. In using dot vocabulary the intention is communicating the personal comprehension of Universality as a fundamental reality. It is a process of de-egoisation wherein the competitive principle of survival of the fittest collapses and evolution of the spirit is understood in terms of acknowledging other selves as an aspect of the self.
