The 70 member Washtenaw Community Concert Band welcomes the summer as new conductor Dr. Christopher P. Heidenreich takes the podium to conduct "Sounds of Summer" at 7:30 Thursday, June 16, at Washtenaw Community College's Community Park. The band will perform light classics such as Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" and Ticheli's beautiful arrangement of "Shenandoah," as well as traditional marches including Sousa's "Pride of the Wolverines" and his ever-popular "Stars and Stripes Forever." Soloists featured with the band are WCCB trumpeter Bey Hurt performing "Maid of the Mist" and Philip Mitchell, UM-Flint guest trombonist, playing Pryor's "Thoughts of Love." The concert is free.
