"American Fantasies" is the theme of the 70 member Washtenaw Community Concert Band's musical performance Thursday evening, February 16, 7:30 p.m. at Washtenaw Community College. Under the baton of Music Director Dr. Christopher Heidenreich, the band's selections feature varieties of American music including jazz, patriotic, Dixieland, a Sousa march, and well known works such as Jenkins' "American Overture", Balmages' "Fusion" and Knox's "American Pageant." A new composition entitled "Cha-Cha' will receive its premier performance by the band. Composed by band member Patricio Padilla, who is well-known for his baritone sax work in Lady Sunshine and the X Band, the new work is the final movement of his Latin work "Las Canciones del Dragon Negro" [Songs of the Black Dragon].
