The Washington Balalaika Society, formed in 1988, is now the largest orchestra of Russian folk instrumentalists in North America. The orchestra endeavors to pattern its sound and repertoire after the great orchestras of Russia while at the same time continuing to explore new kinds of music. The instruments include domras, balalaikas, guslis, accordions/bayans, wind instruments, such as flutes, oboes, bassoons and folk winds and percussion.
