WASHED OUT
The attention of Rolling Stone, Fader, Stereogum and just about every pop tastemaker is being drawn from the streets of Williamsburg to the middle of a peach orchard in Georgia where Ernest Greene a.k.a. WASHED OUT is churning out expansive, profound synth concoctions in his bedroom. The lo-fi fuzz and echoing vocal harmonies of his homespun tracks create atmosphere and context for the layers of keyboard rhythms, guitars, samples and reverberating drums. Upon this foundation of deskpop a la Neon Indian, Greene constructs melodies that take their influence mainly from the pop music of Greene’s early youth; Giorgio Moroder and Depeche Mode reveal their influence upon first listen. His beginnings as a creator of hip-hop beats are betrayed as well, with passages reminiscent of RJD2 or Blockhead strewn about on the no-fi landscape. With his first two EP’s released in August and September in 2009, Washed Out will be making his debut New York City performance (his second live show ever) at Santos Party House. All in attendance will have witnessed something very special, a young talent make a name for himself as he inspires countless others.

RESTLESS PEOPLE

Consisting of members from electro punk darlings Professor Murder and the tropically inclined dance noise firebrands Tanlines, Restless People makes music that is as charming as it is rambunctious. They are most often labeled as the post-punk generation’s Operation Ivy due to their bringing the energy, excitement and Caribbean influence characterized by the underground ska scene into the age of sequencers and electronic soca. Their first single “Victimless Crime” is a grimey but ecstatic skateboard anthem for robots. They’ll be making their live debut alongside Washed Out.
