On Saturday, February 20, the Las Cruces Museum of Art presents “Warholed: Poetry and Pop Culture,” an Andy Warhol inspired poetry reading. Beginning at 11 AM, the reading will include poems about Andy Warhol, Warhol’s iconic images (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Mick Jagger, Sigmund Freud, Campbell’s Soup, etc.) and more generally, popular culture. The new exhibition, “Warhol & Pop Art,” is on display at the Museum through Saturday, April 3.

“You can expect a serious poet to write about Brittany Spears, Maury Povich, or Superman,” said poet Wayne Crawford, who will host the reading. “It should be a lot of fun,” he said. Among the local and area poets who will participate are Peter Brooks, Billie Garrett, Camillo Loldan, Gwendolyn-Joyce Mintz, John Pate, Ellen Roberts Young, Dick Thomas, Lawrence Welsh, and Joshua Wheeler. “A lot of talent, a lot of enjoyment, and a very diverse group make this an excellent performance to attend.” The presentation is free and open to the public.

Funded by the City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street, at the north end of the downtown mall. Exhibits are accessible and free of charge. For information, call (575) 541-2137 or visit the website http://museums.las-cruces.org/.
