The Austin History Center and Austin History Center Association presents a walking tour of Depression era architecture near the AHC, including our own 1933 Italian Renaissance building (which has some Art Deco stylings) where the tour will start. The tour will cover 6 buildings built in the 1930s, some with New Deal money, and architectural historians will regale the tour with stories of each.
This program is part of a series of programs related to the History Center's exhibit, "Relief, Recovery & Progress: The Great Depression and New Deal in Austin." This exhibit explores 1930s Austin, how the Depression had a lasting impact on our community, and what lessons can be learned as the country grapples with the current economic woes.
