Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment Walking Tour
Downtown Brooklyn: From Nickelodeon to Movie Palace
With Theatre Historian Cezar Del Valle

At the end of the 19th century, downtown Brooklyn was a hub of theatrical activity where the greats of vaudeville and the legit stage performed. Starting at the remains of a 1912 nickelodeon, the tour ends outside of the boroughs first great movie palace where Irving Berlin performed on opening night. Along the way, we will visit the locations and sites of a German beer garden, mini multiplexes, minstrel shows, legitimate theatres and movie houses. The walk will take us to the site of the boroughs first purposely built theatre.
