FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Flavorpill writes: "(Wake Up!) features accomplished artists who are
often lauded niche performers but slip under Chicago's cultural
radar... The name says it all: stop hitting that metaphorical snooze button
and open your eyes to some excellent artists."

Taking place every first Tuesday at Sonotheque, the new Wake Up!
series (transplanted from Sundays at Subterranean) showcases some of
the less obvious electronic music talent from Chicago and beyond.

Every other month features the "Invented Traditions" concept of unmixed DJ
sets reflecting the guests' strongest musical influences. Avoiding the
constrictions of mixing, the DJ's juxtapose various styles and tempos rather
than focusing on beat-matching.

Do not hesitate to contact us to request additional information or photos.

WAKE UP! NOVEMBER 1, 2005
Biographies:

BRAD LOVING

Brad Loving is a Chicago producer who makes laptop-based music under
the name Lobisomem. A big fan of Brazil, Brad recently returned from
an extended trip to Rio de Janeiro that began last winter. Music-wise
he is a huge fan of material from Mali, Ethiopia, Japan, Jamaica, and
of course Brazil. Brad's other influences include old jazz, chill
electronic music, pretty folky songs, and relatively obscure rock and
pop. Brad was a proud organizer of the Impetus Concert Series with the
venerable Rai Iijima at the recently defunct venue 3030.

KSCAPE

Kscape is Kumar McMillan, former Sound student at the Art Institute,
radio show host at Radio Free SAIC, coowner of the Bar Label and
dj-about-town. A software engineer from California living in Chicago,
Kscape's selection style varies from day to scene. He gets bored easily
with the same beat or the same sound --and notices when you do too-- so
hopefully he'll surprise you. This doesn't mean he's afraid to beat match.
On the selection controls he's always one step ahead so you don't have
to be. Kscape's fresh mixing style can be described as eccelctic and
adaptive. If you start dancing, he will make you boogie. If you fall
asleep on the couch, he will try not to wake you.

KATE SIMKO

Kate Simko is a classically trained pianist who has carved her niche
as an electronic music producer. Some of her other endeavors include
composing film scores, playing live piano, and organizing various
local shows. Since discovering underground dance music in the early
'90s, Kate has been enthralled with the genre. While serving as Music
Director at Northwestern University's WNUR-FM from 1998-2001, she was
immersed in many different and under-represented styles of music.

Since then she has released music on Germany's Traum Schallplatten (as
Detalles, with Andres Bucci), Chicago's Antenna International, and has
projects in the works on OMM and Badman. Combining her musical
training with her love for underground music, Kate is continually
exploring a dialogue between the classical tradition and underground
music - her two strongest influences. Performing beside artists such
as Michael Mayer, M83, Ulrich Schnauss, Four Tet, Ellen Allien,
Gustavo Lamas, and Dinky, Kate has had the opportunity to share her
music both in Chicago and abroad.

KARL MEIER

With an eclectic style that resides somewhere between the physical and the
cerebral, Chicagoan Karl Meier's DJ sets demonstrate that electronic music
can have range and scope, as well as depth. A life-long interest in
electronic music provided the impetus to start dj'ing in 1994, which in turn
led to a near five year residency at 89.3 WNUR, as well as gigs in Spain and
the Czech Republic. Passionate and opinionated, he maintains: "I'm not
interested in cheap 'lifestyle music', which is what dance music is turning
into. There's a future for this kind of music if it can mine that
area between the sensual and the visceral again -- that sound that early
industrial music and the stuff that came out of Chicago and Detroit
initially had...otherwise, it's just going to become the sole domain of
opportunists and idiots."
