Led by Artistic Director Vincent E. Thomas, award-winning VTDance builds on the use of contemporary dance, improvisation, text/movement, a variety of sound sources and collaborations with other artists. Recipient of two MetroDC Dance Awards in 2006 for Emerging Choreographer and Outstanding New Work, “Vincent is an ambitious choreographer....a reliable, versatile duet partner and a solid soloist" (The Washington Post). New York based INSPIRIT creates contemporary dance works with spiritual exuberance, ancestral strength and startling perception. The all female group holds a rich movement vocabulary that draws from the ensemble’s wide range of experiences, from postmodern forms to traditional West African dance, ballet to yoga. The multi-dimensional dance works that result forge a visceral and emotional connection by expressing collective hopes, struggles and truths. Performing works “with sincerity and passion” INSPIRIT’s works are “transformed by dancers who embodied positive images of African American women” (The Washington Post).
