What: Robert J. Torrez: Voices From the Past – People as viewed through the Spanish, Mexican and Territorial Archive

DETAILS: Robert J. Torrez, former State Historian at the New Mexico State Records Center and Archives opens a window into the past, introducing us to our New Mexican forebears.

Over the past three decades Robert J. Torrez has contributed to several books and has published more than 100 scholarly and popular articles on various aspects of New Mexico history and culture in New Mexico Historical Review, New Mexico Magazine, True West, Tradicion Revista and other regional and national publications. His monthly column, “Voices from the Past” appears in Round the Roundhouse, the state government employees’ newspaper. A compilation of these columns, UFOs Over Galisteo and Other Stories of New Mexico’s History was published by University of New Mexico Press in 2004. His current book, New Mexico in 1876-1877, a Newspaperman’s View, in scheduled for publication by Rio Grande Books in late 2006 or early 2007.

DIRECTIONS: Take the Alameda exit (West) from I-25. From the intersection of Alameda Rd (NM 528) and Corrales Rd. (NM 448), go north for 3 miles to Old Church Rd, turn left (west) and proceed 0.3 miles to the Old Church.
