Join Vocalist Kat Parra as she performs with her Sephardic World Jazz Group with Murray Low (piano), Peter Barshay (bass), Masaru Koga (Woodwinds) and Curt Moore (drums). They will be playing at a private house concert series hosted by Daniel Steinberg, at his cozy home in Mountain View.

Kat is the recipient of the "Best Latin Jazz Vocalist" for 2010 and 2008 as part of the worldwide "Latin Jazz Corner" association. Kat has leapt beyond the boundaries of the typical latin jazz singer. With her thirst for the exploration of world rhythms and tonalities, she has developed a style of music that encompasses sounds that both transcend and bend the stereotypical definition of latin jazz. She has incorporated not only Afro-Cuban music, but also added Afro-Peruvian, Middle Eastern, South American folklore as well as Nueva Trova. In addition, she has also developed new renditionns of Sephardic music–the music of the Spanish Jews sung in the dying language of Ladino- and produced an entire CD of this music, "Dos Amantes".

Kat sings fluently in English, Spanish and Portuguese as well. With this multi-lingual and multi-musical experience, Kat Parra is able to transport her audiences to an exciting and vibrant journey of world and latin music.

Eleven years ago, Daniel Steinberg — a musician whose musical tastes veer sharply away from Top 40 and toward traditional world music and vocal ensembles — decided in the midst of a remodel to build a large room onto the back of his house. Ever since, he has held a monthly concert series there, featuring an incredibly diverse array of his favorite musical acts. Steinberg favors traditional music from around the world, particularly styles that fuse different elements together. Kat's group definitely fits the bill! Donations are accepted and go directly to the musicians.
