Vietnamese Cuisine and Market Tour December 6, 2008

Join Open Kitchen at Viet Royale, rated by the Washingtonian Magazine as one of the area’s 100 Best Restaurants, in the Eden Center (Washington’s Little Saigon) for an authentic Vietnamese lunch with signature dishes such as Cha Gio (Crispy Spring Rolls), Goi Du Du Tom Thit (Green Papaya Salad with Shrimp and Pork), Ca Kho To (Caramelized Fish in Clay Pot), Bun Cha Ha No (Grilled Pork Northern Style with Rice Vermicelli), or Banh Xeo (Vietnamese Crispy Crepe with Shrimp, Pork, and Steam Bean Sprouts). Recipes of a sampling of dishes will be provided.

After lunch, we will tour some of the specialty shops and groceries in the Eden Center to shop for the ingredients of the dishes enjoyed at Viet Royale. We'll learn to identify products from behind their exotic packaging and hear from shop owners how to use these unique items. We’ll supply thermal insulated bags so you can keep your purchases cool and fresh. To close-out this shopping tour, we will stop at a bakery for some French influenced pastries, famous Vietnamese drip coffee, or fresh-pressed sugar cane drink.
